In February of 2023, a group of Christ-followers were led to start a new faith community. This Joyful New Start was born when almost 100 people gathered in Mulberry Park downtown Shallotte and dedicated themselves to band together to worship and honor the Lord. This nomadic congregation moved from the park to Brunswick Senior Center before landing at the vacant Trinity Baptist Church location on Holden Beach Road.
After much prayer and discernment, the church agreed to join forces with the Global Methodist Church movement and adopted the permanent name Asbury Methodist Church. The name comes from Bishop Francis Asbury, ordained by John Wesley and sent to America to plant the Methodist Church. Asbury preached across the Southeast and held church services along the banks of the Shallotte River in the 1700’s.
During the first year, numerous thriving ministries have been born and Asbury is well positioned to be a force for God’s goodness in this community now and for years to come!
